Welcome Southern Field Days to AAFDA
The Association of Agricultural Field Days of Australasia (AAFDA) is delighted to welcome Southern Field Days as our newest member. Based in Waimumu, Southland, New Zealand, this iconic event has grown from humble beginnings into one of the largest and most respected agricultural showcases in the country.
Southern Field Days was first held in 1982, initiated by the Eastern Southland Young Farmers on Ken Bowmar’s property. With just 60 exhibitors and a focus on working demonstrations, the event quickly captured the attention of the local farming community.
Over the decades, it has evolved into a biennial powerhouse, now hosted on 57 hectares of dedicated land, and attracting over 700 exhibitors and around 40,000 visitors from across New Zealand and beyond.
Often referred to as the “friendly field days,” Southern Field Days maintains a strong commitment to its agricultural roots. The event continues to focus on stock and working demonstrations of technology, staying true to its original mission while embracing innovation and growth.
Its success is driven by a passionate volunteer committee, many of whom are local farmers and rural professionals who dedicate significant time and energy to ensure the event’s smooth operation.
Southern Field Days will next be held from 11–13 February 2026, and promises to be another vibrant celebration of rural life, showcasing the latest in agricultural machinery, technology, and services.
Their inclusion in AAFDA strengthens our collective voice and reinforces the importance of regional agricultural events across Australasia. We look forward to the insights, collaboration, and camaraderie Southern Field Days will bring to our association.
Welcome aboard, Southern Field Days!
